About hearing voices groups and about using term

A Hearing Voices Group is not treatment or therapy

Whilst it may be a very good thing, any group that is run as therapy or treatment  or psychoeducation does not fulfill the charter criteria for a HV group. These groups are regarded as Treatment/ Therapy/ Program, groups. We ask that you and the organisation you work for respect and honor the work of the hearing voices network and that you do not use the  term Hearing Voices Group for such groups.

However a  Hearing Voices Group may work in connection or collaboration with any therapy,  treatment and educational programs so that group’s members can find their own power and exercise it by taking a more active role in their lives and demand more from their workers and services – ie you.

Starting a hearing voices group is but one step of many that you will need to take in building adequate capacity to support people who hear voices so that they can free themselves of the burden placed upon them in our society.

If you are serious then your organisation will most likely need to significantly up its game to be ready for when when people come from the group demanding more from your staff and from the services you provide.

If you want support with this then please contact us.
